Signs

There is a digital highway sign on I-95 North outside Baltimore that reads: “Sober all day long.” Then, it morphs into: “I want to ride the highways of life.” I wonder if the Maryland Dept. of Transportation understood that the two messages are deeply connected.

Before recovery, wanting to ride the highways of life would be to escape someone or myself. Now, “sober all day long” is the refrain in my hymn of gratitude. Because now I am free to travel in the direction of my choice.
