The Heart of Leadership
The Heart of Leadership
The Heart of Leadership lies in having the courage to assume full responsibility for an outcome, while at the same time maintaining balance between all the elements involved. An effective leader must be autonomous while seeking to connect, able to follow while directing, be a good listener while ready to inform, and flexible while achieving goals. At times these attributes may seem conflicting, yet in balance, leadership is like a dance; moving in harmony with the complex rhythms of life.
The Equinection Approach
The Heart of Leadership workshop will guide you into an ever-deepening experience of yourself in the role of leader.
Equinection teaches the fundamentals of leadership through self-awareness — of body, mind and spirit. First, you will become more deeply aware of your innate abilities, empowering your capacity to bring out the best in others. You will gain insight into issues you may unknowingly bring into your communication and learn how those issues affect your desired message.
Through the Heart of Leadership, you will understand more deeply what it is to assume full responsibility for your thoughts, actions, and beliefs by experiencing first hand how they affect those you lead, the environment in which you work, and ultimately, the final result. You will learn to focus inwardly and to trust the insight that comes from a fuller awareness of emotion, thought, and experience. This naturally results not only in clarity of purpose and strong direction, but in greater self-respect, respect for others, and for what it is to be a leader.
In the Heart of Leadership, you will practice leadership that engenders trust, inspires creativity and strengthens commitment within yourself and others.
The Heart of Leadership workshop is for those who:
- Are committed to giving their highest and best effort in leading.
- Willing to become more self-aware to better their leadership.
- Willing to assume full responsibility for themselves and the
outcomes they seek.
The Horses
The horses offer unusual clarity and candor to participants. Horses never lie and will flat out ignore incongruent or unclear direction. A horse’s response to direction is an honest reflection of the entire message. Simply stated, it is impossible to ignore the underlying message that something is amiss in your presentation when a 1500-pound horse walks away and ignores your best-intended direction.
Working with a horse provides challenges and opportunities unlike any found in other leadership training methods. Both horses and people respond to all levels of communication. The difference between the two is that people will mentally tune out subtle aspects of communication, while horses don’t. In the Heart of Leadership workshop, you will gain awareness of the totality of your communication and learn what it is to give congruent and clear direction, which is essential to good leadership — with people as well as with horses.
The Workshop
The Heart of Leadership, is a residential program offered in 3 and 5 day formats. Participants stay in the Equinection guesthouse and are invited, during breaks, to enjoy the walking trails and sitting places throughout the 112-acre farm.
Interaction between participants and horses takes place during workshop hours in round pens and pastures, where all are free to roam. Contact with the horses is on the ground; there is no riding during the workshop.
Throughout your stay, you are reminded and invited to step into an authentic form of leadership with the horses and with members of your group, to discover the "heart of leadership" within yourself.
