LEAP: Learning Equinection -

The Apprenticeship Program

Become an Equine Assisted Learning/
Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) Practitioner

LEAP, the Equine Assisted Learning Program, is a comprehensive training to become a practitioner of Equine Assisted Learning/Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL). Through this course of study and experience you will learn the elements of EFL based primarily on the Equinection methods.

The Equine Assisted Learning program is taught in 2 levels. Level 1 is an introduction to EFL and focuses on developing awareness as a practitioner. Level 2 expands into teaching theory, guiding principles and facilitation. Level 2 also further engages apprentices to practice Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) by applying their strengths and insights to the principles they have learned.

Level 1

The first level of the Apprenticeship program is an intensive study of awareness of self in relationship to horses, to the environment, and in the facilitator/client relationship. You will learn the many layers of relationship inherent in Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) practice, explore the responses you experience in this work, and examine what supports your effectiveness as a teacher and what challenges you to be present to the needs of your students.

In Level 1 you will:

  • Experience connection with the horses through a process of tuning into yourself, what you are thinking, feeling, and sensing.
  • Practice skills to respond appropriately to both the horses and your clients.

Level 1 provides a solid and dependable foundation for becoming an effective EFL practitioner.

Level 2

This level is the time for practical application of EFL techniques and strategies.  You will first practice the Equinection approach to EFL.  The Equinection approach relies on your ability to bring your strengths and wisdom to your teaching.  As you work through Level 2, you will discover ways to personalize your training to fit your needs and talents as an EFL professional.

In Level 2 you experience and practice EFL with Karen's guidance.  Your focus will be on deepening awareness of yourself as a teacher.  At the end of this program you will be able to create and teach an effective EFL workshop based on your innate wisdom and strength.

In Level 2 you will:

  • Practice facilitation under close supervision.
  • Assist Karen with an Equinection Workshop.

The Equine Assisted Learning program is experiential in nature and is taught using EFL.  At Equinection, our teaching methods expand beyond horse-based experiential learning to include expressive arts, meditation, journaling, and movement.

Prerequisites:

  1. Participation in an Equinection Workshop.
  2. Willingness to learn about yourself and others and to return to willingness when confronted with obstacles or conflict. Returning to willingness is a way of remembering and honoring commitments you have made in the face of resistance, fears, or perceived obstacles.

The topics covered are:

  1. Deepening awareness of body, mind and spirit.
  2. Safe practices and ethical issues with Horses.
  3. Ethical Issues of EFL practice.
  4. Building relationship with clients.
