What do I wear/bring?

Bring clothing that you are comfortable wearing around horses; clothing may get dirty. All workshops are held outdoors, so bring appropriate clothing: rain gear, comfortable walking shoes, and a hat are recommended. Sturdy shoes or boots must be worn when with the horses. NO STEEL-TOED BOOTS.

Are meals or food included in the workshop?

Meals are not included in the workshop. Participants have use of a full kitchen in the guesthouse to store food and to pepare all of their meals. There is an Ingles grocery store within a ten-minute drive. www.ingles-markets.com

Are there restaurants and shops nearby?

Burnsville is a lovely town with restaurants and shops, only a ten- minute drive from Equinection. www.yanceychamber.com Participants are encouraged to take advantage of the full immersion experience at Equinection. By preparing meals at the guesthouse and eating together, participants maximize opportunities for connection and growth.

Is there Internet access?

There is no Internet access at Equinection.

Can my family and friends contact me?

Participants can use their cell phones at the cabin. Emergency contact during workshops will be through the Equinection office phone, 828-682-9157.

Do I have my own room?

Each room has two twin beds. The cabin has 4 bedrooms. Participants decide their sleeping arrangements.

How many people share a room?

Two people to a room.

How many people share the guesthouse?

8 people can stay in the guesthouse.

Are men’s and women’s sleeping areas separated?

Men and women will have separate sleeping arrangements, with the exception of couples.

Do I need to have prior horse experience to attend a workshop at EQ?

No, our participants need not have any prior horse experience. The focus of the workshop is on building self-awareness through interaction with the horses, not on horsemanship or riding.

Will I be doing any horseback riding?

There is no riding in our workshops.

Do I need any special clothing for your workshops?

You must have boots – NO STEEL TOES – or sturdy shoes to work with horses. Athletic shoes, tennis shoes, or soft-topped shoes cannot be worn working with horses. Bring layers because the weather in the mountains can shift dramatically in one day. The work is outdoors; bring clothing appropriate to the season. Hats, sunscreen, gloves, and comfortable walking shoes are good to have during a workshop.

How far away from Asheville is Equinection?

It is a one-hour drive from downtown Asheville to Equinection. The Asheville Airport is a 1 hour and 15 minute drive to Equinection.

I see that accommodations are provided as part of the registration fee. What if I want to arrive a day ahead or stay after the workshop is completed?

You may stay at the Equinection guesthouse for an extra fee, if the rooms are available.

Do you provide all meals? What if I require a special diet?

No meals are provided. You are responsible for all of your meals. There are several grocery stores in Burnsville, which is a 10- minute drive from the guesthouse.

Do you offer group rates? Corporate rates?

Because of the intimate nature of our workshops, we do not offer any special rates.

What is equine facilitated learning (EFL)?

EFL is experiential education where horses serve as a catalyst for self-discovery. The horses are natural models for authenticity; their responses to people engender self-discovery and understanding for participants. The EFL Professional structures the horse experiences and guides the participants to process and deepen their awareness.
