Journaling Session

Our Work...

Experiential Learning is simply learning through doing. At Equinection, you will be with horses in a safe way, whether this is in a round pen, in pastures, or in a barn. You might lead a horse, or groom one, or write in a journal as you sit with one. We as professionals will be present to facilitate your experience, and to help you understand and integrate the horses' communications.

What can you Learn from a Horse?

Authenticity and Relationship. Through the most direct and un-filtered body language, horses give immediate feedback about their perception of you, and where they are in relation to you. The foundation of all effective relationships is being fully congruent and fully present; Horses insist on this. They teach us to live authentically in the present moment.

Empowerment and Leadership. With a horse you get to practice and experience the basic elements of leadership without the usual human baggage. Horses give an immediate, honest, measureable response. In order to work effectively with a horse, you must get clear about what you want, and communicate this congruently. When horses experience this kind of leadership, they willingly join up with you. The experience for you is empowering.

...Emotional honesty and directness ...Clear boundaries ...Trust in Yourself.

How does all this work?
"The Equinection workshop has brought me closer to the essence that I was born to be. I am grateful.".... (D.B., Asheville, NC)

The following is a story that illustrates how the horses help people learn from experience.

"June" was working with Molly, a small horse who can be difficult to approach. June’s task was simple: approach Molly, respecting the horse's boundaries. Every time June thought about her own past and how it limits her, Molly walked away. Every time June took a deep breath - a way to become fully present - Molly turned and approached June. Whaen asked what she learned, June said: "When I think about the past, Molly doesn't trust me. When I am just here with her, Molly comes to me."

Our horses sense and reflect what lies beneath the masks and games people have adopted to survive. Horses cannot trust masks and games – in herds, their survival depends on being attuned to the emotion and energy of each herd member. Masks, fake emotion, incongruent actions or responses all make horses uncomfortable. They will prompt you and encourage you to be truthful and congruent.

Learning from Horses

What do We Teach?
We teach people to live in ways we have learned from our horses:
- slowing down…
- developing body awareness… and emotional awareness…
- getting the message from emotions and then letting go;
- living in integrity with the truth of the present moment;
- being congruent with our physical and emotional state.

Most of all, we teach trust: trust in your own ability to know the truth, trust in your responses to the environment, trust in Nature, trust in Self.

Special Workshops For Riders:

Experienced riders will learn new techniques to form a deeper connection with their horses. Opening to the wisdom of the horse will help you develop a partnership with your horse.

Our work is demanding and rewarding. Read what our clients have to say:

Your clinic was an amazing realization that our tensions and preoccupations are held in our bodies and detected by our horses, and block clear energetical communication. The horse will reflect this back to us and show us when we have become authentic and congruent. With your expert facilitation and wonderful horses, I experienced first hand the communication possible between human and horse that I had read about in Linda Kohanov's The Tao of Equus. ....
